Ampelos, satire, lover of Dionysus, god of drunkenness. Ampelos is, in mythology, an erogenous satire loved by Dionysus. Following an accidental death, Dionysus, mad with grief, transforms Ampelos into a vine, and from his blood, he elaborates the first wine in the world. No fruit being more beautiful or giving more pleasure to men, Dionysus proclaims himself superior to other gods.
This wine is made from vines planted in an area classified as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, between two of the Rhône Valley's must-sees, Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail, on clay and limestone soils. The conditions are ideal for the production of light and fruity wines.
Ampélos is composed of 55% Grenache, 35% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre. Grenache is the king grape variety of the Rhone Valley, very well adapted to these clay-limestone soils. It gives the wine all its character. Syrah is another grape variety very widespread in this valley, it brings to the wine its aromas of violet, liquorice and sweet spices. Mourvèdre is a very qualitative grape variety, which brings fruit and pepper.
The vines from which this cuvée is made are harvested by hand in the respect of nature, preserving the integrity of the berries. Each grape variety is then vinified separately, for a period of twelve months in French oak barrels, so that each can fully express its characteristics.
The aromas of red currants, wild strawberries and dried oak leaves characterize this cuvée. The mouth is fresh and thirst-quenching. Ampélos, lover of Dionysus, will accompany you perfectly in your aperitif dinners.
